Geography

It is our intent for geography at Oakfield Primary to inspire pupils with a curiosity and fascination about the world and its people which we hope will remain with them for the rest of their lives, developing children into responsible and respectful citizens who have a good understanding of diversity. We aim for our geography curriculum to be broad, balanced, exciting and ambitious for all learners.

At Oakfield Primary, geography is taught discretely across three half terms a year to ensure it is not diluted through other topics. We also aim to provide opportunities for geographical enquiry, including fieldwork. Gaining real-life, memorable experiences and fieldwork opportunities are crucial for embedding learning for all pupils.

In ensuring high standards of teaching and learning in geography, we implement a curriculum which is progressive and knowledge rich. Our geography curriculum is implemented sequentially from EYFS to Year 6 to ensure that geographical knowledge, concepts, vocabulary and disciplinary skills are built upon and revisited each year. The geography knowledge and skills progression map supports teachers in appropriately challenging children and teaching knowledge and skills systematically, building upon prior learning.
